The work described that its origins in some early studies, using classical methods, in the taxonomy of beetles. While interesting to me, decisions were made about species' limits and generic content based on my subjective reactions to the available specimens. During those studies, discussions with many people reinforced my feelings of dissatisfaction with the subjectivity. This monograph is the result of my attempts to minimize its consequences.
