Sommaire en anglais
Overcoming adversity means taking stock of what is important and leaving the rest behind. Western Canadian farmers have faced many challenges in the past year. They have had to re-examine each facet of their businesses and determine what is essential and what can be put aside. Many tough decisions have been made, some as gut-wrenching as selling a breeding herd because of lack of feed, letting go of some acres or getting out while there is still some equity in the farm. Farming is never easy. But when weather is as uncooperative as it was in 2001-02, farmers need to focus on what works for them and their businesses and need to rely on this core of strength and value in building for the future.
