Asian persimmon (Diospyros kaki L.), also known as Oriental or Japanese persimmon is native to China, where it has been cultivated for many centuries. It is a deciduous tree, bears globular orange fruit with delicious fl avor and highly nutritious value when it is mature. Asian persimmon was first introduced into the United States from Asia, and is now grown commercially in California and the Gulf states. In California, it is harvested in late spring or early summer. Asian persimmon has good market value since it is popular among Asian population in North America, and as well as the general public.
