Summary in English
One of the most important decisions a raspberry grower must make is selecting which cultivar to plant. The grower must take into account the microclimate of the farm site, including such factors as length of growing season and average heat accumulation. The physical properties of the soil, the prevalence of soil-borne pathogens, and the availability of water for irrigation may also affect cultivar selection. The winter hardiness of a cultivar is important to consider for growers in all areas of Atlantic Canada. Finally, the method of marketing must be considered. Will the berries be picked by the consumer (pick-your-own) or will they be harvested and shipped to retail markets?
