Experiments: During the 17 day LMS mission, the crew conducted 43 experiments in the Spacelab - a space laboratory which was carried in the cargo bay of the space shuttle Columbia. Some experiments were life science experiments that allow scientists to understand the effects of gravity on the human body and on the development of plants and animal. Other experiments, called materials science experiments, were done on fluids, metals and crystals, and will help us improve the way we manufacture things on Earth.
