Food irradiation is one of the food processing technologies available to the food industry to control organisms that cause foodborne diseases and to reduce food losses due to spoilage and deterioration. Food irradiation technology offers some advantages over conventional processes. Each application should be evaluated on its own merits as to whether irradiation provides a technical and economic solution that is better than traditional processing methods.
